Seasonal Lawn Care: Spring Through Winter

Seasonal Lawn Care: Spring Through Winter

Lawn care needs change through the year. Matching your maintenance to the season helps your turf stay healthy, cope with stress and look its best. Here’s a concise overview of what to focus on in each season.

Spring

As growth returns, resume regular mowing and gradually lower the cut. Apply a spring fertiliser to support green-up and early growth. Scarify if thatch has built up, and aerate if the soil is compacted. Repair bare patches with seed or turf once the soil is warm enough.

Summer

Mow regularly but consider raising the cut in hot, dry weather. If you do water during prolonged drought, ensure it is in the early morning. Avoid feeding in very stressful conditions. Watch for pests and disease and address problems early.

Autumn

Autumn is ideal for renovation: scarify, aerate, overseed and apply autumn fertiliser. Clear leaves promptly. Lower the cut gradually as growth slows. This is a key time to strengthen the lawn before winter.

Winter

Mow less frequently and only when conditions allow. Raise the cut slightly for the last mows. Avoid walking on frozen or saturated turf. Use paths where possible to prevent compaction. Plan any major work for spring.

A consistent, seasonally appropriate routine will keep your lawn in good condition year after year.
