County Turf was honoured to be the official supplier of natural sports turf for Olympic venues at the London 2012 Games. As a family business grown on the free-draining sands of North Lincolnshire, supplying one of the most high-profile sporting events in the world represented both a major challenge and a proud achievement.
The Olympic Stadium in Stratford required turf of the highest quality, capable of withstanding the demands of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, athletics events and the transition between different uses. County Turf delivered big rolls of turf to the Olympic Park, with careful coordination of logistics to meet strict project timelines.
Preparation and laying were carried out to exacting standards. The turf was laid at the Olympic Stadium, watered and cared for to ensure rapid establishment and a flawless playing surface for the Games. The quality of turf supplied – grown on County Turf’s specialist sandy rootzone – ensured excellent drainage and stability under the unique pressures of an Olympic venue.
County Turf also supplied turf for Lord’s Cricket Ground, which hosted archery at the Games. The experience of supplying multiple Olympic venues reinforced the company’s capability to deliver at the highest level, from planning and harvest through to delivery and on-site support.
London 2012 remains a landmark project for County Turf and a testament to the quality and reliability of British-grown sports turf.
