County Turf ventured to the most southerly island of the British Isles, Jersey, to add another prestigious golf club to its list of satisfied customers. Established in 1902, the 18-hole links-type course at La Moye has previously been a PGA European Tour venue and boasts a distinguished list of honorary members.
This was the first time that County Turf had supplied turf to the Channel Islands. Despite the complexity of the logistics – the length of the ferry crossing and restrictions on vehicles on Jersey – the company succeeded in delivering 5,500m² of high quality County Fescue turf on schedule and in perfect condition.
Course Manager Richard Cutler explains: “Following recommendation from industry colleagues, County Turf supplied us with their County Fescue turf which we have used on the surrounds and approach of three green complexes. I am absolutely delighted with the consistent quality of the turf we received. Each delivery arrived on time and in perfect condition and I wouldn’t hesitate to call on them again in the future.”
County Fescue is a very fine-textured turf grown from a pure fescue blend, with both cultivars placed top in the BSPB’s close mown tables. It is grown on North Lincolnshire’s natural sands which are very close to USGA specification, making it ideal for greens surrounds and approach areas on links-style courses.
The successful delivery to La Moye demonstrated County Turf’s ability to coordinate complex logistics while maintaining the quality and condition of the turf from harvest through to handover.
